The new Multi-Level Parking Garage near the northeast corner of campus has evolved from a large crater to a new eight-story parking facility. Starting on Tuesday, August 31, this new parking garage - officially designated MLP-10 - will open for employees.
Over the last few months, the Office of Research Services (ORS) and Office of Research Facilities (ORF) have been working with the construction team to make final preparations for its grand opening. MLP-10 will be a 1250-space, employee-only parking garage. The following types of permits will be allowed inside the garage: General, Handicapped, Carpool, Red and Reserved. How to Access and Exit MLP-10
Access to and from the garage will be via North Drive, either from Rockville Pike or Center Drive. Similar to other locations, you will be required to display your valid NIH Identification Card and NIH Parking Hanger.
From the East – If entering on the east side from Rockville Pike (southbound), use the access lane just past West Cedar Lane and continue on to North Drive to enter the garage. Vehicles traveling north on Rockville Pike cannot make a left turn on to the access lane or North Drive. Vehicles traveling northbound on Rockville Pike should enter campus using either Wilson Drive, South Drive or Center Drive. When exiting from the east side of the garage to Rockville Pike, vehicles will only be permitted to make a right turn. To proceed north on Rockville Pike, follow the North Drive extension to Center Drive and use any designated campus exit.
From the West – Enter the campus through any of the open vehicle entrances and proceed to Center Drive. From Center Drive, proceed to the North Drive extension near the new CRC. To exit campus, use the North Drive extension to Center Drive and use any designated campus exit.

The parking lots adjacent to Rockville Pike – Lots 31F and 31H - will be permanently closed once MLP-10 opens to prepare for the construction of the new Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI) station, scheduled to begin later this year.
The remaining spaces in Lot 31B directly behind Building 31 will be adjusted during this construction phase to allow for NIH permits, including Handicapped, General and Red. In addition, some spaces will be designated police vehicle parking.
During construction, pedestrian access to MLP-10 will consist of a partially covered, five foot-wide walkway from the garage to the former Garden Drive roadway. It will connect to the existing pedestrian pathway leading to Building 31, B wing.
