Multi-level Parking Garage (MLP-9) Scheduled to Open Tuesday, November 1
978 Employee Parking Spaces Available
Temporary Parking Lots to be Phased Out

The new 978-space Multi-Level Parking Garage (MLP-9) is scheduled to open on Tuesday, November 1. MLP-9 is located at the intersection of Convent Drive and South Drive (next to the Clinical Center).

MLP-9 includes several features such as:

A traffic pattern allowing for two-way traffic throughout the garage
Low impact lighting that will not disturb nearby buildings or the Surrounding community
Two glass-enclosed elevator towers (at each end) and numerous staircases
An architectural design to maximize natural lighting throughout the facility
Three emergency 'blue light' telephones on each level for personal
A red brick facade complimenting the surrounding NIH-designatedHistoric architectural district

Except for 15 Blood Donor parking spaces, the remainder of the garage will be employee parking only. The garage includes 19 Handicapped, 75 Red, 25 Carpool and 859 General employee parking spaces. The first level of the parking garage contains the handicapped, red and carpool parking areas. You will also notice some of the spaces located within the garage are designated for "Compact Car" parking.

Vehicles parked in this garage must display an NIH Parking Hanger excluding motorcycles. Designated areas have been established for motorcycles and bicycles throughout the garage. If parking in Blood Donor spaces, individuals will be required to sign in at the Blood Donor Center on the first floor of Building 10 and will be issued a specialty permit by that office.

A safe speed limit of 5 MPH has been established for all levels of the garage.

The completion of MLP-9 was made possible through a partnership of the Office of Research Services (ORS) and the Office of Research Facilities Development and Operations (ORF).

Temporary Lots to be Phased Out; Returned to Green Space

Shortly after MLP-9 is operational, the temporary graveled parking lots On campus will begin to be phased out and returned to green space. Ample Notice will be provided prior to the actual closure of any specific temporary lot to allow employees to plan accordingly.
