Clinical Center Parking and Shuttle Route Changes -- Effective December 5 & 6

* Upcoming Clinical Center Parking Garage Change - December 5
* NIH Campus Shuttle Route Change - December 6
* Center Drive Traffic Pattern Change - December 6
* Patient Valet Lot Relocated from Lot 10H to Lot 10E

Effective Sunday, December 5, 2004, several changes are slated for the Clinical Center (CC) Parking Garage. These changes affect both patients and employees.

The new parking configuration for the Clinical Center Garage will be:

P-1 Level: Parking for Patients, Patient Visitors and Handicapped Employees (Formerly Red, Reserved and Patient Care permit holders)
P-2 Level: Red and Patient Care Parking Permit Holders (Formerly General staff
parking)
P-3 Level: General Parking Permit Holders and Reserved Parking Spaces (Formerly parking for Patients, Patient Visitor and Handicapped)

Patients, Patient Visitors and Handicapped Employees will enter the CC Garage using the P-1 Ramp located on Convent Drive. Red and Patient Care Permit Holders will also use this entrance to proceed to the P-2 level. From 7 am until 7 pm, only patients, patient visitors and handicapped employees will be permitted to exit using the P-1 ramp.

General Parking Permit Holders and employees with Reserved Spaces will enter the P-3 level via the ramp on Memorial Drive. The P-3 entrance will be open at 5:45 am, Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and holidays. General Permit Holders may also use the P-1 entrance until 7 am. From 5:45 am until 7 pm, all employees, except those with handicapped placards/permits, must exit the garage via the P-3 level. The P-3 entrance/exit will be closed from 7 pm to 5:45 am. Stacked parking will continue on the P-3 Level for employees. From 7 pm to 5:45 am, all motorists must exit via the P-1 exit.

Changes are also being made to enhance the NIH Campus Shuttle and NIH Campus Express routes. Both of these shuttles will now incorporate a stop at the new Mark O. Hatfield Center. Stops will continue to be made at the Warren G.
Magnuson Clinical Center (South Entry). For current employee shuttle information, please visit: http://dtts.ors.od.nih.gov/index.htm. New shuttle schedules incorporating the December 5 and 6 routing changes will be made available shortly.

Center Drive will also have a new traffic pattern to facilitate the opening of the Mark O. Hatfield Center main entrance on December 5. The outermost lanes of Center Drive will continue to serve as the major route for eastbound and westbound traffic. The innermost ring (closest to the building) is designed for traffic going to the new entrance. Please pay particular attention to the new traffic pattern at the intersection of Center Drive and Memorial Drive. Until motorists become familiar with the new pattern, you may experience a brief delay when traveling through this area. A detailed map showing these traffic patterns can be found at: http://dtts.ors.od.nih.gov/center_drive.htm

Lot 10H will also be converted from a shared Patient Valet and Employee Lot back to an Employee ONLY parking lot. Please pay particular attention to the signs that will be installed in the former valet area to re-establish this lot for employee parking.

For bicycle commuters, bicycle racks have been installed near the front entrance to the Mark O. Hatfield Center on either side of the entrance plaza.

Please remember to secure your bicycles to these racks and not to signs or other fixed objects in the area. For information on bicycling opportunities to the NIH Campus, please visit the NIH Bicycle Commuter Club at:http://www.recgov.org/r&w/nihbike/

As activation of the new Mark O. Hatfield Center continues, there will also be a noticeable increase in the amount of pedestrians and bicyclists using the new segment of Center Drive. All motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists are encouraged to share the road. Please remember that at some time throughout the day, we all become pedestrians.
